    Position Title: Chief Information Officer


    Position Description: Leads Organization by advancing IT Products, data analytics and Innovation.  Creative thinker – Always thinking about how new technology can affect, enhance and improve the organization.  Manages, coordinates, and supervises activities of computer operations, data entry, and software utilization.  Responsible for designing, planning, implementing and controlling all functions pertinent to these areas.  Serves as a liaison between software vendors and the users.  Responsible for the operation of the telephone system. 


    Supervision Received:   Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).


    Supervision Exercised: Supervises Information System staff.

    1.    Develops goals/objectives for the department, establishes and implements policies and procedures.

    2.    Maintains integrity of information.  Maintains security systems, guarantees back-up schedules for data, and maintains a log of software application problems and status.

    3.    Complies with HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations

    4.    Selects and trains/orients departmental personnel.  Evaluates, recommends merit increases, and performs disciplinary actions on directly supervised staff.

    5.    Determines staff, space, equipment, supply requirements, prepares/recommends department budget and ensures that department operates within allocated funds.

    6.    Evaluates and recommends hardware and software acquisitions. 

    7.    Responsible for technology equipment maintenance so that it performs at a high level of efficiency.

    8.    Updates systems procedures and completes all conversions on schedule.

    9.    Ensures prompt and courteous feedback to requesters of technology services including providing information on software changes and other pertinent information to technology users.

    10.  Establishes/directs department quality assurance systems to ensure quality performance.


    11.  Develops and maintains appropriate department records, reports and files.

    12.  Exercises leadership in promoting the mission and values of the hospital throughout the institution and the community.

    13.  Responsible for completing work projects as delegated by the CEO.

    14.  Participates in departmental planning, fiscal planning and budget preparation.

    15.  Undertakes special projects as assigned by administration.

    16.  Represents Franciscan Care Services at appropriate conferences and committee meetings.

    17.  Member of the Administrative Team.  Attends bimonthly Administrative Team meetings and monthly Board of Director’s meeting.

    18.  Participates in professional development activities to keep current with trends in technological advances.

    19.  Performs related work as required.

    20.  When involved with patient handling tasks, and weight to be lifted exceeds 35 lbs., assistive devices should be used.

    21.  Consistent attendance is required.

    Typical Physical Demands: 

    Requires sitting for long periods of time, bending over desks, reaching and stretching for items.  Requires hours at the computer terminal and keyboard.  May include lifting of up to 30 pounds of paper or computer equipment.  Very good manual dexterity for operation of keyboard and troubleshooting computers.


    Typical Working Conditions:

    Normal office environment.  Occasional evening or weekend work.



    v  Bachelors’ Degree in Computer related field.  Examples include:  Management Information Systems,     Computer Information Systems, IT Management and Project Management.

    v  Two years experience in a computer related field.
