Maddie Bracht 2018

Maddie Bracht 2018

After finishing her 8 month stent of rehabilitation in 2015, Maddie Bracht never thought she would walk through the rehab doors again. Little did she know she would have another rehab journey in 2018, almost identical to her first! Maddie tore her right ACL in 8th grade while running hurdles in track. In her junior year, it was chasing after a loose ball that claimed her left ACL. She had her left repair surgery in February of 2018 and then came through those rehab doors again! Initially Maddie’s parents joined her for therapy sessions. “They were very supportive and so helpful when I was still using crutches,” she recalls. Her therapists recall phone calls with the Bracht’s and the physicians to make sure the best care was provided.

Crutches were a big hurdle for Maddie, but once they were gone, her rehabilitation sessions took off. She said, “Bending my knee was really tough. Since I had been through it before I knew it wasn’t going to be fun.” Then, “single leg squats were hard; I never really did that just for fun!” Through it all, Maddie kept pushing. She said, “My sweat was like tears of joy for the therapist; that’s rehab!” Her therapists recalled Maddie attending every session with a smile on her face and ready to take on the PT challenges.

Maddie noted, “My goal was always to return to sports for my senior year.” Yet come to find out, she developed some life goals as a result of her rehabilitation. “I want to be a physical therapist now. I plan to study that in college and make it my career. I had a firsthand look at it.” The rehabilitation department is so proud of Maddie and we wish her luck in all her future plans!
