Marvin Kappius 2019
Marvin has always been a very diligent, hard worker but this was really tested when it came to his left hip. Marvin first noted increased hip pain and was seen for rehabilitation in August of 2016. Following almost two months of therapy, he was set up on a home exercise and wellness program. Marvin continued that for some time but in June of 2017, he began therapy again for his left hip. In July 2017, Marvin had a left total hip replacement. He spent just short of two weeks in the hospital under a swingbed stay before he was sent home independently. He then began outpatient rehabilitation for the third time. He required support and assistance for driving and most other tasks. His caregiver, Jolene Peatrowsky provided much of that support. She said, “It had to be done, he needed to get better.”
Marvin remembers being told to “keep moving it” and he admits it took him a while to realize movement would actually help his pain. Once his pain was under control, he felt like he was getting stronger and his walking was improving. Marvin said “It can be a slow process, but therapy really helps!”
Since completing his therapy, Marvin has continued to come and use the wellness center for his home exercise program. He works out three days a week and is totally independent with his program.
When he is not at the wellness center, Marvin enjoys doing word search puzzles. He reports, “I’m hooked”. He completes anywhere from 5 to 10 puzzles a day! He also enjoys activities at the Senior Center. “I’m not too big on TV, so I like to be out and about!”
Franciscan Care Services and the Wimmer Rehabilitation staff are thrilled Marvin can be “out and about” without pain! We are proud of Marvin for his hard work and dedication to his overall wellness!
