How to Stick to Your Health Resolutions

January is a time of new goals and resolutions. Many people say they want to “get healthy this next year”. Although many people say this, just as many are not sure where to start or how to go about getting healthy.
Exercise plays a major role in a healthy lifestyle. It’s important to pick the right kind of exercise for you. This can be walking, jogging, lifting weights, swimming, kickboxing, anything that gets your heart rate up, or a combination of these. When choosing a type of exercise, consider any injuries or pains you have. For example, a broken hand and boxing don’t really go together.
Your next step in choosing a type of exercise is considering long-term and short-term goals. Be realistic! Tackle short-term goals first, as you work towards your long-term goal. For example, if your goal is to lose 20 pounds, you need to start with losing 1 pound. It’s a gradual journey that takes perseverance and perspective.
Finally, with exercise, do what makes you feel the best. If you feel better walking 3 miles as opposed to running 3 miles, that’s fine! Exercise needs to be enjoyable for you to stick with it, especially if you are aiming for a full year!
